I can't believe I'm so late getting this posted, but we had some nasty weather here yesterday, and it was just too dark for picture-taking.
Last week's post showing a couple of my mother's vintage aprons reminded me that I have yet to show off the remainder of the hostess aprons that belonged to Don's grandmother, Tessie. I shared a few of them with you this summer in this post.
Having a special dinner for your sweetie on Valentines's Day or your anniversary? This apron would be perfect.
Having a dinner party in the fall, or need something stunning for Thanksgiving. How about these beauties?
I love this one, perfect for Christmas. I actually came across one just like it in a thrift shop a few weeks ago.
And this last apron is my mother's. Still hangs in my kitchen. Very vintage, very Christmas, and with the attached hand towel, very practical.
I did not host Thanksgiving this year, but I did do a little baking. I made my maternal grandmother's delicious Lacy Cookies. Here's the recipe, they're ridiculously good. They disappeared pretty quickly so I don't remember how many this will make, but its a big recipe. I made a half recipe each for church and family.
Lacy Cookies
- 2 1/2 c. rolled oats
- 2 1/4 c. light brown sugar (lightly packed)
- 3 T flour
- 1 t. salt
- 1 c. butter (melted)
- 1 egg
- 1 t. vanilla
Combine oats, sugar, flour and salt. Stir in melted butter. Beat egg and vanilla and add. Arrange 1/2 teaspoon of batter on greased cookie sheet (I used parchment paper - even greased they were a bit sticky) 2 inches apart (this is important, they really spread) and bake at 350 degrees for 7-8 minutes.
This wasn't in the recipe, but I baked these on the highest shelf of my oven to avoid burning on the bottom. They're pretty temperature sensitive. I baked them at 325, but I think my oven is running hot.
Don't bake these too far ahead - they might disappear on you, too!
I'll see you next week with a Birthday post.
Anna
Hi Anna, those are so much fun! My personal favorite is the fall-colored flower one, love it. Thanks so much for sharing these with us.
Happy VTT,
Sally

Aprons are almost a symbol for mothers, at least the mothers of the past. You are lucky to have aprons from your family.
