Happy Saturday!

Finally, here is the card using the fold that convinced me that I had to have the Fancy Folds & Motion Cards CD from Technique Junkies.  I thought it looked a lot easier than many of the folds the design team showed but still it had quite an impact and would look impressive to the recipient.

And I was right, this card was very easy and started with just an 8" x 8"  piece of cardstock.

Here is the front of the card, stamped with an image from Just for Fun and a sentiment from Inkadinkado and tied with ribbon.

 

And when you untie that ribbon, voila!  See, lots of impact but not complicated to put together at all and it was very fun to make.

On the inside I used some old atlas pages and stamps from Stampers Anonymous (sentiment), and Viva Las Vegastamps (cars).  I think this would be a great card to celebrate a milestone on any journey like graduation or a new job.

I do have another card in progress on my work table and I need to get a card in the mail for Don's mother by Monday, so you will see more cards soon.

What I've Been Up To

When I decided to open Milestones and Miracles on Etsy, I knew that I didn't want this blog to become just an advertisement for the store, and I still feel that way.

That said, unless you want to hear about my housework, errands, or homework, that is really all I have been up to the last few days.

I've been reworking my wall hangings because of problems with the seam binding.

I replaced the jewelry findings and seam binding with fibers and I like them both much better now!

I also did some detail work on some hangings I haven't photographed yet.

And I completed some cards for the shop.

I reworked an old card using an image from my grandfather's photo album for this one.

You wouldn't believe how long this one took me, unless you're a cardmaker and then you know how it goes.  A very simple layout and very unlike the idea that I started out with, a little cursing and hair pulling along the way, but a simple and effective result.

So, there you go, that's what I've been up to the last few days.

Hi All,

I've been making cards this week, getting ready for some craft fairs in October and to sell in my Etsy shop.

I have a regular customer at one of the shows in October who loves vintage Halloween creations, so I always have to have some things just for her.  I already showed you two of the cards that I made, here are two more.

The first is made from a small cabinet card that I bought on a trip to New England two years ago.  The stern expression on this woman's face made it perfect for Halloween.

Just scan, print and add a hat, cat and cauldron and she's ready for the 31st.

I almost feel bad in a way, I'm sure this woman would be horrified to have her image used so frivolously.  But it is a fun card.

This is actually a new version of a card I made two or three years ago for submission to a magazine.  It was never published, but I always loved it.  It was one of the first times that I used the Oil Pastel Gesso technique from the Technique Junkies Newsletter.

Here I also inked up this Halloween stamp from Purple Onion designs for the first time, the script stamp is from Just For Fun.

I start a new course tomorrow morning, but I will be back with some more cards this weekend.

By The Sea

Well, I'm happy to say that I survived my final in Anatomy & Physiology and I've been working on a few things that I will be sharing with you this week.

Today's post is a card that I made for two challenges; the Gingersnap Creations Blue Moon Challenge - Take on a Tutorial and last week's Clean & Simple Challenge (a sketch) at Splitcoaststampers.

(Shells by Just for Fun, Sentiment by Oxford Impressions) 

The Gingersnap Creations challenge was to use one of the many tutorials on their blog and I chose one of the modifications of the salted background, using rice, for my card.

I finally tried another new technique here; the shells were colored using pencils and baby oil, something I've been wanting to try for a long time.  I was spurred on by the beautiful coloring on this card.  Since I haven't jumped into the Copic craze yet, I thought I would see what kind of results I could get this way and I'm pretty happy with it considering that it was my first try and my limited supply of colored pencils.  I will definitely be trying this again!

A couple of other details, I used kitchen string sponged with a little Ranger Tea Dye Distress Ink and the card itself is also watercolor paper.
